Our north is the south
2021Description
Our North is the South is the name of the exhibition organized by the Gomide gallery in collaboration with Tiago Mesquita and Paul Hughes Fine Arts, showcased between August and October 2021 in São Paulo. The exhibition’s curation brings together a collection of pre-Columbian tapestries crafted by the Huari, Nazca, and Inca cultures engaging in a dialogue with a carefully chosen selection of pieces from contemporary Latin American artists. Adopting a formal, geometric, and relational perspective, the curatorial narrative unfolds by reflecting the intricate interplay between artistry and craftsmanship in the realm of Latin American production. The catalog was designed to accommodate bilingual texts, arranged in blocks in tangent columns that permeate the entire core, and the diverse set of reproductions of works, which includes large images of historical tapestries positioned on folded pages that reveal the object with due prominence. The cover, adorned in red fabric – a striking color in the works – with white screen printing finishing.
